Larry Poons: Momentum
This exhibition brochure functions as both scholarly documentation and aesthetic argument, chronicling Larry Poons’ remarkable trajectory as an artist. The exhibition juxtaposes eight recent paintings against four historical examples of his work to establish a critical through-line across six decades of work, where earlier experiments with perceptual effects and compositional rhythm find their apotheosis in recent panoramic canvases. The publication frames Poons’ oeuvre within the broader dialectic of postwar American abstraction, arguing for the artist’s singular position as a master colorist operating at the height of his powers.
